Getting a new nose has never been easier!
A Toronto plastic surgeon, Stephen Mulholland, has made a name for himself by reducing the nose job to a simple injection. Conventional rhinoplasty involves breaking the bridge bone of the nose before reconstructing it. Mullholand’s procedure is much less messy, much faster and quite a bit cheaper.
The new nose job eliminates the necessity of going under a knife and takes a mere fifteen minutes. The doctor numbs the nose flesh with an injection, much the same way a dentist would freeze gums, and waits ten minutes for the freezing to take effect. Mulholland mixes the local anesthetic with adrenaline, which constricts the blood vessels and minimizes bruising and swelling. Next comes an injection of either Restylane or Juevederm, skin fillers commonly used in cosmetic surgery to permeate fine lines and wrinkles. The final and most important part is a reshaping of the patient’s nose using only his hands.
Without either surgery or the hefty price tag of four to eight thousand dollars associated with it, Mullholland can completely eliminate bumps in the nose bridge, he told The Ottawa Citizen. At approximately 1000 to 1500 dollars, in addition to it being a cheaper and less painful procedure, this “five-minute nose job” eliminates the six to eight months of swelling and bruising that normally follows surgery, as well as the necessity of wearing a nasal splint. Such a technique cannot, however, radically alter nose shape, although a doctor doing similar procedures in New York, Dr. Cameron Rokhsar, told CBS that enhancing the symmetry gives the nose the appearance of being more proportional.
And if you are commitment-phobic about your own looks, no worries. The effect of the injection only lasts six months. If you decide you don’t want to go for a second round, you can have your old nose back.
